Over the past two days, our Early Years children (Foundation Stages 1 & 2) have had balance bike workshops to develop their confidence on a bike, preparing them for later years when they begin to cycle recreationally outside of school.
A balance bike is a bicycle without pedals that learners propel by pushing their feet against the ground and this helps their gross motor skills. By allowing children to focus on developing their sense of balance and coordination before introducing pedalling, balance bikes enable independent riding more quickly than training wheels.
All of the children enjoyed being out in the playground in the lovely sunny weather, cycling through cones, over ramps, under limbo poles – challenging themselves and having fun alongside their friends.
