Year 1 Trip to Filey

12th June 2023

On Friday 9th June our Year 1 children had a school trip to Filey!

Setting off at 9am, the children were very excited to complete their ‘Bus Bingo’ sheets, where they had to look out for lots of different things on their journey, such as cows, traffic lights, zebra crossings. Alongside drawing and playing eye-spy, this helped to pass the time as we made our way to the coast (albeit there were the frequent ‘are we there yet?’ questions along the way!).

Once we arrived, we all had a snack before making the short walk to the beach. At the beach the children were very excited exploring the sand and rocks on the coastline.

The children participated in lots of activities, such as writing their names in the sand and decorating their designs with shells, rocks and seaweed. Beanbag toss, french cricket and hula-hoop games were also firm-favourites!

After this exercise and excitement, everyone had worked up an appetite – we placed down our towels on the beach and had our lunch, picnic style, appreciating the beautiful views and fresh coastal air. Once all the children had finished their food, they made sure to clear away all their rubbish, remembering the importance of keeping our environment clean for both humans and animals.

In the afternoon, everyone went for a paddle in the sea. Initially it was extremely cold, but as the children jumped up at the waves and tried to find colourful shells in the water, we all acclimated to the chilly temperatures and it was lots of fun. After drying off, we left the beach to get an ice-cream or ice-lolly from the local cafe – this was a great chance for all the children to sit down and have a rest alongside their friends, chat about their favourite part of the day and reflect upon the beach and its habitat.

The coach journey home in the afternoon was much quieter than when we were driving out to Filey, as many of the children had naps after their busy day exploring. We hope all the children had a wonderful time on their school trip, they were very well-behaved and it was lovely accompanying them.
