Last week, we were delighted to host the Early Excellence Roadshow, offering professional development and practical guidance to heads, senior leaders, and teaching staff from across the region. The event provided valuable insights into early years education, with informative talks, group discussions and a model classroom.

The day began with Sarah Carey’s session, “Is Everything OK with Your EYFS?”, aimed at headteachers and senior leaders. This session prompted reflection on current EYFS structures, OFSTED considerations, and the integration of EYFS within the whole school framework. Delegates then visited the Early Excellence model classroom and toured Wakefield Grammar Pre-Prep.

In the afternoon, the focus shifted to continuous provision. We explored its importance, viewed examples of planning for different areas, and discussed how these could be implemented in their own settings. Time was allocated for questions and discussions, encouraging participants to reflect on the accessibility and effectiveness of resources in supporting children’s learning.

The Roadshow concluded with a twilight session on creating effective classroom environments for continuous provision. This popular session, attended by over thirty participants, included a hands-on look at an ideal classroom layout designed by Early Excellence. Everyone who attended thought this was an insightful and interesting day and valued their vast expertise and practical advice.
