Foundation Stage 1

EYFS Balance Bike Workshop

1st July 2024

Recently, our Early Years children (Foundation Stages 1 & 2) participated in balance bike workshops designed to boost their confidence and prepare them for recreational cycling in later years.

Balance bikes, which are bicycles without pedals, allow learners to propel themselves by pushing their feet against the ground, thereby enhancing their gross motor skills. By focusing on developing balance and coordination before introducing pedalling, balance bikes enable children to transition to independent riding more swiftly than traditional training wheels.

During the workshops, the children enjoyed being out in the playground in the lovely sunny weather. They cycled through cones, over ramps, and under limbo poles, challenging themselves and having fun alongside their friends.

Learning to ride a bike at a young age provides children with valuable skills that will serve them throughout their lives. It promotes independence, confidence, is beneficial to their physical health and supports their wellbeing.
