Senior Section Ends Term on a High with Celebration Assembly

4th April 2025

The Senior Section at QEGS wrapped up the Spring Term in outstanding fashion with a Celebration Assembly that captured the energy, talent and achievement of our pupils across all areas of school life.

Led by Dr Brookes, the assembly began by recognising pupil success throughout the term — from academic excellence to sporting triumphs, musical achievements to wider extracurricular contributions. It was a proud reminder of the breadth of opportunity at QEGS and the commitment and drive our boys bring to every aspect of school life.

The occasion was elevated even further by a series of exceptional performances from our Senior House Music winnerss. Congratulations to Tesh, Emmanuel and Charlie for performing with confidence, creativity and flair — each a credit to our thriving music department.

One of the most eagerly anticipated moments of the day was the final of the House University Challenge. After a series of hard-fought rounds, the Year 13 Freeston team — Garside, Robinson (captain), Sharp and Dube — earned their place in the grand final to face none other than the reigning champions: the staff team (this year comprised) of Miss Loftus, Mr Masterson, Mr Lister and Mrs Taylor. The Freeston team stormed into an early lead before the experienced staff team clawed back control with a strong mid-game performance. But in a nail-biting finale, it was captain Robinson who buzzed in with a decisive answer that allowed Freeston to steal the win — to the delight of the QE Hall audience! Huge thanks go to Mr Masterson and Mr Fitzsimons for their expert quizmastering and bringing the event to life.

The assembly closed with the much-anticipated announcement of next year’s student leadership. We are proud to announce Henry as our new Head Boy, supported by Oscar and Oliver as Deputy Head Boys. Congratulations to them and the wider Senior Prefect team on their appointment — we look forward to seeing their leadership in action next term.

As we head into the Easter break, we celebrate not just the accomplishments of this week, but of a term full of progress, purpose and pride. Well done to all our pupils, and thank you to staff and parents for your ongoing support. We wish everyone a restful and refreshing break.
