House Rugby Tournaments Spark QEGS Spirit with Thrilling Matches

29th November 2024

This week brought an electrifying display of talent, teamwork, and school spirit as Year 7 and Year 8 students at QEGS competed in their eagerly awaited house rugby tournaments. Packed sidelines, buzzing crowds, and the steadfast enthusiasm of staff and pupils made it a truly memorable event.

The Year 8 competition opened with exhilarating semi-final matchups. Cave’s physicality, driven by the dynamic trio of Henry R, Oliver M, and Oscar G, overwhelmed Savile’s elusive runners, earning them a spot in the final. In the second semi-final, Bentley narrowly defeated Freeston in a tense battle, with playmaker Rory S’s creativity proving decisive.

The final between Cave and Bentley was an intense spectacle. Despite being a player down, Cave showcased their dominance, claiming the championship with a commanding performance. Meanwhile, Savile rebounded in the third-place playoff with determination, leaving Freeston with the wooden spoon.

The Year 7 tournament saw Bentley live up to their reputation as favourites. They swept past Freeston in the semi-finals before dismantling Savile in the final to secure the title. Savile claimed second place, Freeston took third, and Cave, despite their best efforts, finished fourth after a challenging competition.

Throughout the week, boys from all houses braved the wintry conditions, demonstrating commitment and resilience on the pitch. Every sidestep, tackle, and try was met with enthusiastic cheers from the crowd, creating an electric atmosphere that underscored the strength of QEGS’s community spirit. Staff and pupils alike lent their support, cheering on their teams with passion.

A huge congratulations to all participants for their effort, sportsmanship, and determination. The house rugby tournaments remain a highlight of the school calendar, uniting the QEGS community for a week of thrilling action and unforgettable memories.

We look forward to next week for the re-arranged Year 9 and 10 competitions before our Junior Section take over in the penultimate week of term! Plenty to look out for!
