At Queen Elizabeth Grammar School (QEGS), student success is celebrated both inside and outside of QEGS. The prestigious “Starry Tie” award, presented during a whole school assembly, recognises pupils who go above and beyond in their achievements. The latest recipients of this honour are Jamie and Harrison from Year 13, and Henry from Year 9.
Jamie and Harrison earned their Starry Ties for their remarkable contributions to charity and their volunteer work at a local primary school. The duo, both in their final year at QEGS, spearheaded a school-wide fundraising initiative inspired by an idea formed during an economics lesson. Harrison explained, “Jamie and I came up with the idea to do Total Warrior in class, but we wanted to make a real difference. In the end, 40 people got involved, including staff, lads, and girls from WGHS. It was a fantastic day.”
In addition to their charitable efforts, the pair volunteered at a local primary school, helping younger children with reading and phonics. Harrison added, “We wanted to do a good deed and give back to the community.”
Henry, from Year 9, was awarded his Starry Tie for his exceptional accomplishments in Taekwondo. Competing at both national and international levels, Henry is set to travel to Poland this week for a prestigious G1 competition, which will be live-streamed on YouTube. The event is a significant opportunity, as competitors who earn enough points can qualify for the Great Britain squad. Henry already represents the British Taekwondo squad, and the school wishes him the best of luck.
Congratulations to Jamie, Harrison, and Henry for their outstanding achievements – and best of luck to Henry in his upcoming competition!
