Science Week at QEGS has been filled with excitement, discovery, and hands-on learning, offering pupils a range of engaging activities designed to spark curiosity and inspire the next generation of scientists.
The week began on Monday with a fascinating session led by Miss Loftus and Mr Alarcon from the Senior School physics department. Pupils explored the challenges of space travel and worked through practical experiments to solve the question of how astronauts could be rescued from the International Space Station (ISS). Their innovative ideas and enthusiasm set a fantastic tone for the week ahead.
Monday evening saw the return of our popular Lads & Dads Science Evening, a cherished annual event that offers an opportunity for pupils and their families to explore scientific concepts through hands-on activities. It was wonderful to see so many enthusiastic participants engaging in the experiments and celebrating the joy of learning. Next year, we look forward to hosting the Mums & Sons Science Evening, ensuring that all families have a chance to experience this memorable event.
On Tuesday, the excitement continued with an Inter-House Marble Run Challenge. Teams were tasked with constructing a marble run designed to last exactly 60 seconds. Congratulations to Cave House for achieving the closest attempt, with their marble run lasting an impressive 22 seconds. The challenge was a fantastic display of creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving.
Meanwhile, our Year 5 pupils embarked on an unforgettable visit to the National Space Centre. They explored interactive exhibits, stepped inside a real rocket, and experienced the thrill of space exploration through a stunning planetarium show. The visit provided invaluable insight into the world of astronauts and space travel, sparking the imaginations of our young learners.
On Wednesday, Year 4 pupils had the opportunity to join their peers from WGHS for an engaging Science Show, bringing together the schools in the spirit of collaborative learning. Today, the excitement continues as they head off to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park to further explore the natural world. The week will conclude on Friday with a visit to the Sky Dome Planetarium, offering a mesmerising journey through the stars.
A heartfelt thank you to all staff, parents, and pupils who have contributed to making Science Week such a memorable success. With so many moments of discovery and joy, it has undoubtedly been a week to remember.
