Junior Section Athletes Go for Gold at the HMC Athletics Competition

6th July 2023

It was a fantastic day in the glorious sunshine for QEGS JS at the annual HMC Athletics competition.

Our U11s led by example throughout the day. The day started with the relay heats and the boys showed they meant business when they crossed the line 30m ahead of their nearest rivals, qualifying with the fastest time. This very much laid the foundations for the rest of the day! Superb performances in every event meant that our boys finished 1st in the U11 Boys category. Special mentions should go to Henry Roberts for winning the 100m, Oliver Marshall for winning the Javelin and the relay team for winning the relay.

The nature of this competition means that every point counts for your school and the U10 athletes, although they didn’t win their age group, performed really well. They competed hard in each event, stealing a lot of points with gutsy individual efforts and a brave relay. A special mention must go to Ethan Dowes who won the Javelin competition.

The U9s produced a spectacular performance winning every single event across the day! This is something I have not seen happen during the 12 years I have been doing athletics at the school. Special mention should go to Charlie Worth who broke the 80m sprint record with an incredible time of 11.33 seconds (the record had previously stood for 35 years)!

Huge congratulations to all the athletes.
