On Friday afternoon, the QEGS U14 Cricket Squad travelled to Castleford CC for their Yorkshire Cup Final against a strong Scarborough College side. Both teams arrived with a wealth of experience at this level, fully aware of the challenge that lay ahead.
Batting first in what became a rain-affected match, Scarborough made a strong start. Their opener produced a classy unbeaten 94, well supported by the rest of the line-up, guiding them to 226/5 from 36.2 overs before the weather intervened.
With the rain bringing an early close to Scarborough’s innings, QEGS were handed a revised target of 211 from 28 overs under the DLS method – a difficult chase in testing conditions. The boys gave it a real shot, with Ingram and Bhamji (both playing a year up) top scoring with 40 and 33 respectively. Despite their efforts, QEGS came up against a disciplined Scarborough attack and eventually closed on 138-8.
Although they fell short on the day, the squad should be hugely congratulated on reaching the final – a fine achievement that reflects their hard work and progress this season.
