QEGS U14s Secure Victory at Woodhouse Grove 7s

19th March 2026

The QEGS U14 squad remained unbeaten throughout the Woodhouse Grove 7s to claim their second tournament title in as many weeks.

Following a previous tournament win, the team arrived at Woodhouse Grove with high expectations and delivered a clinical display of 7s rugby. The squad’s defensive discipline and explosive attacking play were evident from the outset as they navigated a challenging run of fixtures against some of the region’s strongest teams.

The tournament began with a series of comprehensive victories, including a 33-0 shutout against King’s Pontefract and a dominant 39-0 win over Woodhouse Grove ‘B’. The team continued their momentum with a 33-7 win over Hill House and a 33-12 victory against Ilkley. Perhaps the most pivotal moment of the pool stages was a gritty, high-intensity encounter with Sedbergh, which QEGS edged out 19-17 in a display of remarkable composure under pressure.

Having remained unbeaten all day, the squad saved their most clinical performance for the final. Facing a strong Barnard Castle side, QEGS produced a masterclass, securing a 45-7 victory to lift the trophy.

This latest success serves as the perfect preparation for the squad as they look ahead to next week. The team will travel south to compete in the prestigious Rosslyn Park National 7s, where they will test their skills against the very best school sides in the country.
