Last Friday marked a special and emotional milestone as Year 13 students from both WGHS and QEGS came together for one final celebration of their time at school — the annual Leavers’ Ball.
Held at the Royal Armouries in Leeds, the evening was filled with laughter, memories, and a real sense of occasion. Staff were also in attendance, joining pupils to reflect on their journeys and to look ahead to the exciting futures that await.
As the evening began, the excitement was clear as students gradually arrived — many by coach, and one even making a grand entrance via tractor — all dressed immaculately for the occasion. The venue sparkled with atmosphere as everyone settled in for a three-course meal, enjoyed in great company.
The much-anticipated awards ceremony followed dinner, with light-hearted categories including ‘Most Likely to Go on Love Island’, ‘Best Duo’, and ‘Most Likely to Become a Billionaire’ sparking plenty of laughter and friendly competition.
The night concluded on the dancefloor, where a mix of impressive moves and questionable rhythm brought the celebration to a cheerful close. Let’s just say — some of the dancing was best enjoyed in the dark!
It was a wonderful evening to celebrate a year rich in achievement, friendship, and lasting memories. Of course, the small matter of A-Level exams now lies ahead, but we wish all our leavers the very best as they enter this final stretch.
Year 13 students will round off their time at QEGS with a Leavers’ BBQ next Friday before officially beginning their study leave. Good luck to all — you’ve been brilliant.
