QEGS Battle Bravely in National Schools Cup Final

14th March 2025

QEGS Wakefield showcased their resilience and determination in a hard-fought National Schools Cup Final at Twickenham’s Allianz Stadium, ultimately falling 22-14 to a strong Harrow side.

Facing the reigning champions, QEGS entered the contest with fire and intensity, their passionate pre-match roar echoing through the stadium tunnels. Despite conceding early tries in the first half, the Yorkshire side refused to back down, epitomising the grit and spirit that has defined QEGS rugby for generations.

With torrential rain pouring down in the second half and Harrow extending their lead to 22-0, many teams might have crumbled—but not QEGS. Led by their inspirational captain, Jack Bailey, the team fought back, seizing momentum with powerful carries and relentless pressure. Bailey himself crossed the whitewash twice in the final stages, showing immense leadership and determination. Vice-captain Charlie Rust also produced key moments of brilliance, while Lance Barker’s pinpoint touchline conversions added further quality to the QEGS performance.

While the result was not in QEGS’ favour, the team’s performance was one of heart, passion, and never-say-die resilience. Their sixth U18 final appearance reinforces QEGS’ legacy as one of the great schools in the competition’s history. Every player left everything on the pitch, and their efforts will be remembered with pride.

Congratulations to Harrow on their victory, and to QEGS for an outstanding campaign that will inspire future generations.
