On Monday, the QEGS community was transported to the vibrant rhythms of Africa as they experienced an exceptional African Drumming workshop led by the renowned Steve Rivers of Unbeatable Energy. A master drummer, Steve has studied under some of Africa’s most celebrated Djembe players, including the legendary Mamady Keita, whose influence has reached percussionists worldwide.
This immersive workshop was a part of the boys’ Music of Africa studies, designed to bring classroom learning to life. Under Steve’s expert guidance, pupils explored advanced drumming techniques, mastered intricate rhythms, and even incorporated traditional African dance into their performance.
The day was marked by an infectious energy and enthusiasm as the boys embraced the challenge, showcasing their creativity and teamwork. The combination of cultural education and hands-on learning left a lasting impression, with pupils leaving the workshop not only with new musical skills but also a deeper appreciation of African traditions and artistry.
Steve Rivers praised the boys’ effort and spirit, noting their impressive ability to quickly pick up complex patterns. The event was a testament to the power of music to unite and inspire, leaving everyone involved with a sense of accomplishment and joy.
Well done to all who participated!
