Photography Meets History: A Year 13 Perspective Inspires Year 1 Learners

5th December 2024

Henry, a talented Year 13 student at QEGS, recently captivated younger pupils with a fascinating presentation of his photography, which explores the contrasts between Victorian and modern buildings in Wakefield. His keen eye for architectural detail and his ability to highlight the juxtaposition of historical and contemporary styles provided an enriching experience for Year 1 children as part of their Yorkshire curriculum studies.

During the session, Henry showcased a collection of photographs that illustrated Wakefield’s rich architectural heritage. The images ranged from the ornate details of Victorian structures to the sleek, clean lines of modern-day developments. His commentary helped the Year 1 pupils understand how the city’s landscape has evolved over time, blending historical significance with modern innovation.

The children were particularly engaged as Henry shared insights into his creative process and the stories behind the buildings he captured. His passion for photography and the local area resonated with the young audience, sparking their curiosity and prompting thoughtful questions about Wakefield’s history and culture.

This collaboration not only brought their Yorkshire curriculum to life but also demonstrated the value of peer learning, as Henry’s experience and enthusiasm inspired the younger pupils to look at their surroundings with fresh eyes.

A big thank you to Henry for his time, effort, and creativity. His work exemplifies the talent and generosity within our school community, and we’re thrilled that he could make such a meaningful contribution to the learning of our Year 1 pupils.
