QEGS and WGHS travel to Nice!

4th November 2024

Over the half-term break, a group of students from Queen Elizabeth Grammar School (QEGS) and Wakefield Girls’ High School (WGHS) had the opportunity to experience the best of the French Riviera, as they embarked on an unforgettable trip to Nice. The excursion offered a perfect blend of culture, sightseeing, and relaxation, providing students with an immersive experience that combined education with leisure.

Throughout their time in Nice, students were treated to stunning views of the Mediterranean, as they explored the picturesque city and surrounding areas. The iconic architecture of the city was a particular highlight, with visits to landmarks such as the Promenade des Anglais and the old town, where students had the chance to admire the blend of historical buildings and vibrant street life that makes Nice so unique.

One of the trip’s most enriching aspects was the chance for students to sharpen their French language skills. Local language lessons were arranged, allowing students to practise conversational French with native speakers and deepen their understanding of the language in a real-world setting. This hands-on approach to language learning was an invaluable experience, further enhancing their academic knowledge while immersing them in the culture.

The itinerary was carefully designed to ensure the students enjoyed a balance of structured activities and free time. They were able to relax and unwind on the famous beaches of Nice, soaking in the beauty of the Mediterranean coast. The local cuisine was another highlight, with students sampling a variety of traditional French dishes, from freshly made pastries to delicious seafood, all while experiencing the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere of the French Riviera.

In addition to the cultural and academic benefits, the trip also fostered a strong sense of community among the students. Bonding with classmates in such an exciting and new environment helped strengthen friendships and created memories that will last a lifetime. The trip to Nice was a fantastic opportunity for students to explore a new country, gain a deeper appreciation for French culture, and develop new skills both inside and outside the classroom.

Reflecting on the trip, one of the teachers commented, “This was a wonderful opportunity for our students to experience the culture, language, and beauty of Nice firsthand. It’s not only about learning the language, but also about immersing themselves in the lifestyle and atmosphere of a different country. The students have gained so much from this experience, and we hope it will inspire them to continue exploring the world and pursuing their studies in languages.”

Overall, the trip to Nice was a resounding success, offering the students at QEGS and WGHS a chance to broaden their horizons, enhance their cultural awareness, and create lasting memories that will undoubtedly inspire their future learning journeys.
