Celebrating Culinary Creativity and Cultural Resilience

25th May 2023

Congratulations to Y6 QEGlet Dimitri for his outstanding Bean Soup creation, which was selected by our catering partner, Holroyd Howe, as one of the standout dishes in the recent JS MasterChef competition! The team were so impressed that they decided to recreate his dish for the entire school to enjoy.

Dimitri’s Bean Soup is not only a delicious and hearty meal, but it also carries a deep historical significance. Inspired by the challenging times of German occupation in Greece during World War II, Dimitri crafted this recipe as a tribute to the resilience and survival instincts of the Greek people.

In a time when many faced famine, beans became a vital source of protein and earned the name ‘The Meat of The Poor’. Dimitri’s dish reminds us of the strength and resourcefulness that can emerge even in the face of adversity.

We applaud Dimitri’s talent, creativity, and his commitment to honouring his heritage through his culinary skills. Well done, Dimitri! Your bean soup not only nourished our students and staff but also reminded us of the power of culture and resilience in our shared history.
