At QEGS, ‘sport for all’ is a principle we live and breathe every day. At every level of sport at QEGS, pupils are encouraged to wear the crest and live the values and this philosophy has helped the school to develop an enviable reputation for sporting excellence, with individual and team successes ranging from county to national honours.

Countless opportunities for sport exist both within and outside the curriculum and within QED for all ages, interests and abilities, forming an integral part of school life. All pupils, regardless of ability, can get involved either individually or as part of a team in Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Climbing, Cricket, Cross-Country, Fencing, Fitness Training, Football, Gymnastics, Hockey, Judo, Mountain Biking, Rugby, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis and Volleyball.

Building character by developing a love of sport.

Participation in sports and exercise activities enables us to pursue excellence by developing a passion for improvement; to seek triumph and sporting success ourselves but also to willingly sacrifice and give selflessly for the benefit of others.

The school also aims to promote enjoyment and satisfaction from sport and physical exercise whilst developing a pupil’s skills in sport and knowledge of fitness and good health.

Creating the right environment for sporting achievement

Our excellent sports facilities include a sports hall with fitness suite, games fields, athletics track, sports pavilion and all-weather Astroturf. Pupils are nurtured and encouraged to achieve their potential, with the majority enjoying the opportunity to represent the school on the sports field. Numerous representative honours are gained each year at county, regional and national level in the major sports of Rugby, Hockey and Cricket.

Athletics, Cricket, Hockey and Rugby teams regularly reach regional finals and latter stages of national competitions. Playing on the hallowed Twickenham turf in either the U18 or U15 NatWest Cup Finals in four consecutive years is a very enviable track record.

From QEGS to the world

Each year, sports tours take teams of different ages to meet the challenges of overseas opponents, with recent destinations including Barbados, Northern Ireland and a Rugby tour to Australia and New Zealand.
