Administration of Medication

The School Nurse will not give medication to boys without parental consent. Consent forms are currently sent to all parents annually.

This covers non-prescription medication such as paracetamol, antacid remedies and throat lozenges. The School Nurse will give short term prescribed medication e.g. antibiotics, ear/eye drops etc. if a covering letter is provided by parents, the medication is in it’s original container, which is clearly marked with name, dosage and frequency. Matron can store this medication.

Any prescribed, controlled medication (eg Ritalin, diazepam) must be stored in a controlled drug cupboard in the School Nurse's room if it has to be administered at school. Boys must take this medication under adult supervision.

Parents should inform school of a boy’s medication regime regardless of whether that medicine is administered at school or not.
