In Physical Education and other areas linked to the Department we attempt to complement and contribute to the general aims of the school. It is the intention that all pupils regardless of their ability should be given the opportunity to experience a wide range of physical activities thus contributing to the overall experience and package that the school has to offer.
Within the curriculum the work is designed to cover National Curriculum requirements and more to give the boys as much experience in as many activities as possible. Our model is also designed to allow boys to advance and perform to the best of their ability and whilst the drive for excellence is very important, total participation is our aim.
All lessons are intended to be physical experiences involving some aspect of health and fitness as well as skill development. Work will also cover attitudes to sport including fair play and the recognition of strengths and weaknesses and how their actions affect the work of others.
All boys are encouraged to seek help and advice on all aspects of sport and to utilise the extensive facilities including the sports centre and fitness suite as well as the numerous outdoor areas. Boys involved in team sports will inevitably get the opportunity to go on junior and senior tours with their respective sports.
There are many academic staff who support the PE Department and share their philosophy of participation and opportunity as well as the drive for excellence. The school has an excellent tradition and is renowned locally, nationally and internationally for its sporting ethos. There is no doubt that the aim is for all boys at QEGS to have a challenging and rewarding experience.
