Students, parents and staff at Queen Elizabeth’s School, ranked among the North’s top independent schools, are celebrating exceptional GCSE results, with 53% of all grades awarded at levels 9 to 7. The School takes immense pride in the achievements of all its students, many of whom have delivered outstanding individual performances.

Stand out performances included Noah, Yusuf, Joshua, Anisha, Riya, Isaac, George, Alfie, Aarna, Krish, Lucas, Navya, Edward, Rayaan, Sam, Anjali, Muhammad-Mustafa, Oscar, Muhreez, Grace, Zidan, Theo, Jonathan, William, Siddharth, Subhaan, Owen, Josh, Olivia and Arthur who achieved 8 or more 9-8 grades (formerly A*s), and 18 students who achieved 9 or more 9-7s. 75 pupils were awarded at least one of the top Grade 9s. And, across the full range of ability we have a huge number of pupils who achieved results better than their benchmark expectations.

Our accomplished Year 11 pupils include:

• Noah must be congratulated for his exceptional results of 11 grade 9s and 1 grade 7 to add to his grade 9 in Ancient Greek from Year 10. He is now looking forward to his A Level studies at Queen Elizabeth’s, taking Latin and Classical Civilisation as two of his subjects.
• Aarna must be congratulated for her exceptional results of all grade 9’s in the ten subjects she studied. She is now looking forward to her A level studies at Queen Elizabeth’s, taking Chemistry, Biology, Maths and French. 
• Krish has achieved outstanding results of 10 grade 9s and a grade 8 resulting in the offer of a Sixth Form scholarship.
• Anjali has achieved outstanding results of 9 grade 9s and a grade 8 resulting in the offer of a Sixth Form scholarship.
• As well as being a champion high jumper, Josh has proved his academic prowess today with 5 grade 9s and 5 grade 8s in his GCSEs. 
• Jordaine has worked incredibly hard to achieve amazing progress achieving 5 grade 8s and 4 grade 7s in her GCSEs.

Head Dr Brookes remarked, “Our Year 11s at both Queen Elizabeth Grammar School (QEGS) and Wakefield Girls’ High School (WGHS) have achieved great things. Their GCSE results are outstanding, and set them up for continued success in their academic studies. They have made stellar contributions to the school, on the sportsfield, on the stage, in the concert hall, achieving personal and team success along the way. Moreover, through their voluntary work with the community, charitable fundraising and careers experience, they are becoming outstanding young adults, ready to thrive in the Sixth Form and their lives beyond.

These separate cohorts from QEGS and WGHS will join together, alongside new external pupils, as the founding students of the Sixth Form at Queen Elizabeth’s School, Wakefield. From September 2026, Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Wakefield Girls’ High School, and Wakefield Grammar Pre-Preparatory School will unify under Queen Elizabeth’s School, Wakefield.

Queen Elizabeth’s is an academically selective, co-educational independent day school for pupils age 3 – 18 from FS1 (Nursery) to Sixth Form, set in the heart of Wakefield city centre.

Our School has a vibrant community of over 1,200 pupils, supported by an extensive team of dedicated, subject-specialist teaching and support staff.

The history of Queen Elizabeth’s began by Royal Charter granted by Queen Elizabeth I in 1591 to begin a legacy of learning for children in Wakefield.
