Pupils, parents, and staff at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School (QEGS) and Wakefield Girls High School (WGHS), both part of the Wakefield Grammar School Foundation, and two of the North’s top independent schools, are celebrating today following excellent achievements on A Level Results Day 2026.

An impressive 62% of results were graded A*-B grades at A Level, with over 38% of all grades being A*/A. Among these, 5 students attained 3 or more A* grades, and a further 26 attained 3 or more A*-A grades.

Our ambitious students have secured places to study a variety of disciplines at their first-choice universities, including prestigious institutions such as Oxford, Imperial, Durham, Edinburgh, Nottingham, Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield, Newcastle, Loughborough, King’s College and UCL. Notably, nearly 80% of pupils applying for university places successfully secured spots at their preferred universities, along with outstanding apprenticeship opportunities with companies in the fields of accountancy and logistics amongst others.

Our accomplished pupils include:

• Guy, achieved 3A* grades and an A to secure a place to read Computer Science at Imperial College.
• Chris secured A*, A and B grades and is heading to York University to study Curating and Art History – a first for us! His amazing work in the library and school archives will stand him in good stead!
• Will achieved A*, A*, and A grades in Computer Science, Maths and Physics, to secure a place to study Computer Science at Warwick University
• Thomas, one of our talented rugby squad, leaves us to study Modern Languages and Culture at Durham University
• Musician Sam is building on his outstanding A* in Maths to take a Maths degree at York University.
• Ernie heads up to Newcastle University after a great set of results to study Food Business Management and Marketing. 
• Talented sportsman, Marcus, is delighted with his results and is looking forward to taking up his place at Northumbria to study Economics and Finance. 
• Euan is delighted to be taking up his place to study medicine at King’s College after achieving A*, A*, A, A in his A Levels. 
• Yu scored 2xA*s and 2As to secure his place to read Physics at Imperial University
• Talented Hockey player, Matthew, scored an amazon 4xA* grades and he will be studying Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College.
• Talented hockey player, Thomas, secured 3x A* grades and an A grade and heads to Warwick University to study Maths and Physics.
• Leeds Rhinos Academy player, Will, leaves us to study Accounting and Finance at Leeds University having achieved 3 A grades – well done!
• Jack secured a place to study Mechanical Engineering at Newcastle University where he will enjoy continuing playing rugby.  
• We are very proud of Brad who is leaving us to take up a highly sought after degree apprenticeship in logistics.
• Lewis was celebrating today as he takes up his degree apprenticeship in Accounting – a huge achievement. 
• Star hockey player, Aarush, has secured his palace at Nottingham University to study Economics.
• Rugby player, Harrison, is heading to Birmingham to study Law – a long held ambition. Well done!
• Having achieved a brilliant A*, A, A in his exams, Zayn leaves us to study Medicine at Hull York Medical School. 
• Durham University will be welcoming Thomas to study Economics once he has finished celebrating his 3xA*s and A* in his EPQ. An amazing achievement.  
• Asim is delighted to have secured his place to read Medicine at Newcastle following his 2xA8s and 2XA and an A* in his EPQ. We are really pleased for him. 
• The very stylish Alex leaves us to study Physics at York University where we have no doubt he will flourish as he has in the Sixth Form. 
• Deputy Head boy and talented musician, Oscar, will be studying for a degree in Law with French at Oxford University. 
• Deputy Head Girl, Charlotte achieved A* Grades in Economics and History and A grades in French and Maths and is on her way to study Social Sciences at Durham University
• Freya is celebrating 2As and 1B and is heading to Liverpool to study Occupational Therapy
• Ella is going to study Psychology and achieved excellent results working incredibly hard to match or beat her bench marks in all subjects 
• Alice achieved an exceptional set of A level results with 2A* and an A (1mark off an A*)  and is going to Durham University to study English Literature
• Lucia achieved an exceptional set of A level results with 2A* and 2As and as an excellent hockey and netball player is going to preseason training at Edinburgh next week before beginning her studies in Structural Engineering with Architecture
• Deputy Head Girl, Gabby is heading to the University of Manchester to study Fashion Marketing having achieved a great set of results.
• Eiliyah is celebrating 2As and 1B and is heading to Sheffield to study Chemistry with an Industrial Placement Year
• Mallory is going to study Biomedical Science at Nottingham and achieved excellent results working incredibly hard. 
• Sophie is celebrating this morning having achieved her first choice place with Norland to study Early Childhood Education and Care
• Ishani is delighted to have secured her place at Leeds to study Medicine
• Edie achieved A* A* A* A and is thrilled to take her place at Durham University

We are very proud of all our students who competed an EPQ alongside their other A Levels with nearly 70% of grades at A*/A – an amazing achievement.

From September 2026, Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Wakefield Girls’ High School, and Wakefield Grammar Pre-Preparatory School will unify under Queen Elizabeth’s School, Wakefield.

Queen Elizabeth’s is an academically selective, co-educational independent day school for pupils age 3 – 18 from FS1 (Nursery) to Sixth Form, set in the heart of Wakefield city centre.
