At Queen Elizabeth’s School, Wakefield, we boast a school community that travels from all areas of Yorkshire, spanning as far as South Yorkshire and the East Riding.
Every campus at Queen Elizabeth’s benefits from access to fantastic transport links, whether travelling via car, train, or bus – meaning Queen Elizabeth’s is a great option for commuting families.
We offer a brilliant bus service, partnered with Zeelo, for all pupils from age 8. The buses arrive on Wentworth Street by 8:30am and depart at 4:15pm.
Our bus services are delivered inclusive of 24/7 live customer support, fully DBS-checked drivers, and native digital utilisation – including cashless tickets on the online booking platform, live vehicle tracking, and service status notifications.
Our bus services currently cover Dewsbury, Wombwell, Penistone, East Leeds, and Huddersfield. We welcome requests for additional stops on our bus services at any point throughout the academic year.
Wakefield benefits from its close proximity to key junctions on three motorways – M1 (J39 – J41), A1(M) (J38 – J41), and M62 (J30 – J32).
The M1 connects Wakefield to Leeds, Sheffield, and Barnsley, as well as other key towns along the spine of Yorkshire; it provides fast and direct access to Queen Elizabeth’s whether commuting from the north or the south.
The M62 links Wakefield with towns such as Huddersfield, Pontefract, and Hull – making it ideal for those commuting from the east or west.
The A1(M), which sits just east of Wakefield, provides additional connectivity for those travelling from Doncaster, Wetherby, and Harrogate.
In addition to the excellent motorway access, Wakefield is perfectly connected by rail, offering a reliable and convenient option for pupils and families.
The two major stations, Wakefield Westgate and Wakefield Kirkgate, are centrally located and are a short walk away from all our campuses. Both stations offer convenient connections to major cities including Leeds, Doncaster, Sheffield, York, and London. These stations also offer links to smaller towns such as Huddersfield, Pontefract, and Barnsley.
