We are very proud of our out-of-classroom offering at Queen Elizabeth’s School, Wakefield, providing clubs and activities for all interests.
Sport is an integral part of our all-round offering, encouraging participation, teamwork and physical literacy alongside academic achievement. We regularly compete on a national level, having very recent success in Athletics, Hockey, Netball and Rugby.
While our top-level sport is celebrated, we also have a strong focus on participation for all pupils. From Early Years through to Sixth Form, pupils are encouraged to get involved in everything we offer. Our sports facilities support Athletics, Cricket, Cross-Country, Football, Squash, Swimming, Tennis, and Volleyball.
We boast high-quality sports facilities, which includes dedicated playing fields, newly renovated sports halls, a brand new all-weather hockey surface, as well as strength and conditioning facilities and a swimming pool.
This allows us to tailor our offering to team/individual needs – whether that be challenging our Performance Squads or developing skills in PE lessons. This, alongside our highly experienced sports staff, provides pupils with an excellent sporting experience – evidenced by our team achievements and the levels individuals go on to represent, including national and county level.
The Enrichment and Development programme at Queen Elizabeth’s also exposes pupils to Badminton, Basketball, Golf, Lacrosse, Rounders, Rowing, Skiing/Snowboarding, and Table-Tennis.
We are also privileged to be a CrossFit-affiliated school. This rare accolade reflects our commitment to modern, inclusive and high-impact fitness. Through this partnership, pupils benefit from expert-led functional training that builds strength, confidence and resilience – regardless of starting ability.
CrossFit’s scalable approach means every student, whether “sporty” or new to fitness, is challenged appropriately in a supportive and encouraging environment. It promotes lifelong physical literacy, teamwork and mental discipline, all of which complement academic success.
Queen Elizabeth’s are proud to offer this dynamic and forward-thinking programme as part of our wider commitment to wellbeing and all-round development.
