It is a privilege to serve as Head Boy of Queen Elizabeth’s School, Wakefield, and to welcome prospective students and their families into such a vibrant and ambitious community. Having joined the school in Year 9, I quickly felt a strong sense of belonging, supported by both staff and students. The welcoming environment allowed me to integrate seamlessly, forming friendships and becoming fully involved in school life from an early stage.
My time at Queen Elizabeth’s has been shaped not only by academic study, but also by the breadth of opportunities available beyond the classroom. I have particularly enjoyed History, where I have developed independence and a genuine curiosity for learning. Alongside this, sport has played a central role in my experience. Representing the school in 1st team rugby and cricket has been incredibly rewarding, providing opportunities to compete at a high level while developing resilience, discipline and teamwork. These experiences have not only strengthened my character, but have also allowed me to contribute meaningfully to the school community and build lasting friendships with both fellow students and staff members.
A defining strength of the school is its commitment to developing well-rounded individuals. Through sport, enrichment, and leadership opportunities, students are encouraged to challenge themselves and grow in confidence. My own journey, from joining in Year 9 to representing 1st teams and now serving as Head Boy, reflects the supportive environment that enables every student to thrive.
To be part of the first student leadership team following the unification of Queen Elizabeth Grammar School and Wakefield Girls’ High School is both an honour and a responsibility. It represents a new chapter built on strong traditions, where we aim to foster a new culture and identity of unity, inclusivity, and ambition. I am committed to ensuring that every student feels valued and empowered to make the most of the opportunities available to them.
What truly distinguishes Queen Elizabeth’s is its sense of community. The support from staff and peers creates an environment where individuals are encouraged to aim high while feeling supported in their journey. It is this balance that makes the school such a rewarding place to learn and grow.
Looking ahead, I am unsure on what to pursue, however I am confident that the experiences and values I have gained here will provide a strong foundation for the future. I would encourage any prospective family to consider Queen Elizabeth’s not only for its academic excellence, but for the character, confidence, and opportunities it offers every student.
