Alumni at Queen Elizabeth’s School, Wakefield

4th July 2025

Our Alumni community is made up of Old Savilians’ from Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Old Girls from Wakefield Girls High School and, from 2026, graduates of Queen Elizabeth’s School, Wakefield.

The Old Savilians’ Club was formed in 1898 and took its name from the Savile family; the benefactors who brought ‘Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Wakefield’ into existence in 1591. Throughout its existence the Club has remained remarkably faithful to its original objectives: to promote good fellowship of all Old Savilians, to strengthen the links between past and present, and to promote the interests and prosperity of the School and its Alumni.

The Old Girls Association was formed in 1891, and can trace its records back over a hundred years to reports of the 21st anniversary celebration appearing in the WGHS magazine in 1912-1913. Although a formal Association no longer exists today, Old Girls continue to engage with the School through the Development Office.

Over 12,000 alumni worldwide remain connected to the School through their membership of either the Old Savilians Club or the Old Girls’ Association. Membership enables our Alumni to maintain their connection to School and to their former classmates, as well as providing them with access to an international network of former pupils.

Our Alumni are invited to join us at a range of events throughout the year, including our flagship events; the Old Savilians’ annual dinner in December and the Old Girls Summer reunion in June. Events take place across the country, and alongside formal lunches and black tie dinners, there are also joint events, informal receptions and business networking opportunities.

Our Alumni community plays a vital role in supporting our current pupils by volunteering their time as speakers in assemblies and career talks. Alumni are the driving force behind our mentoring programme for Year 12, offering personalised guidance to pupils on their chosen career field, to help pupils to feel empowered with the confidence to embrace the world, knowing they are supported by a community that believes in them every step of the way.

Many Alumni choose to support the Foundation’s philanthropic ambitions through donations and gifts in kind. The School is incredibly grateful for all support and contributions, and we look forward to the continued delivery of an exceptional education to talented students from all financial backgrounds.

The School encourages all graduates of Queen Elizabeth’s to keep in touch as valued members of the School community. Alumni are warmly welcomed back to School and the Development Office are happy to arrange tours of the School and to help organise reunions.
