We have been exploring sound waves through percussion intruments. The children had a fantastic time, making lots of different sounds out of everyday objects and discussing how the sounds varied. They went on a sound walk, listening to all the sounds they could hear and taking note of them - they were amazed at how many sounds there are going on all around them, which usually they do not notice.\r\n\r\nThe children made telephones out of cups and lengths of string, and carried out experiments on their creations by investigating whether the size and material of the cups makes a difference to the sound quality of the telephones. The children in Foundation Stage 1 ventured into their outside area to scavenge for natural materials, out of which they made their own percussion instruments. They made some fabulous (and very noisy!) creations.\r\n\r\nOn Friday, music specialists Mr Renshaw from QEGS and Mrs White from WGHS ran workshops with the children. The children enjoyed jungle drumming, body percussion and explored the range of sounds that they could make.
