Meet Ellie and Alice as they share their journeys in becoming Head Girl and Deputy Head Girl, their responsibilities, and the ways these roles have strengthened their confidence and leadership abilities.\r\n\r\n<b>Ellie, Head Girl:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Ellie\u2019s journey to becoming Head Girl began in junior school, where she first held the position. \u201cI always looked up to the Head Girls that came before me,\u201d she recalls. By Year 12, Ellie questioned whether she had the time or ability for such a role but decided to go for it anyway. \"What was the worst that could happen?\" she thought\u2014and now, she leads as Head Girl at Wakefield Girls\u2019.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In her role, Ellie is focused on collecting student voices to drive change and improvements at the school. One of her standout moments so far was delivering a speech to a group of alumnae. \u201cIt was a reflection on school life and my personal stories from my journey at Wakefield Girls',\u201d she explains. \u201cThe feedback was filled with emotion, and the alumnae were able to reminisce about their own school memories. It was such a special moment, and I felt proud to be part of it.\u201d<\/span>\r\n\r\n<b>Alice, Deputy Head Girl<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Alice\u2019s ambition to join the Senior Prefect Team also grew throughout her school years. \u201cThe Senior Prefects were always people I looked up to,\u201d she says. \u201cI aspired to be one of them so I could be a role model for younger students and make a positive impact on the school community.\u201d When the opportunity came to apply for the team, Alice didn\u2019t hesitate. \u201cI went for it, and I\u2019m now the Deputy Head Girl.\u201d<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In her role, Alice works closely with Ellie and the rest of the team, supporting school events and representing the school at key functions. \u201cI attend events like Speech Day, Founder\u2019s Day, and parents' evenings as a school ambassador,\u201d she explains. A highlight of her role so far has been speaking to the school governors about the ideas her team developed. \u201cIt was exciting to share our vision with the governors, and I also loved helping out with the<a href=\"https:\/\/wgsf.org.uk\/wghs\/2024\/06\/10\/empowher-24\/\"> Year 5 empowHER event<\/a>. Seeing the pupils grow in confidence throughout the day was truly memorable.\u201d<\/span>\r\n\r\n<b>Developing Leadership Skills<\/b>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both Ellie and Alice agree that their roles have helped them grow as leaders. \u201cBeing Head Girl has taught me a lot about communication and how to lead a team,\u201d Ellie says. \u201cI\u2019ve learned that by supporting and encouraging others, we can achieve better outcomes for the school.\u201d<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alice, too, has seen her leadership skills flourish. \u201cBeing Deputy Head Girl has definitely helped me build confidence in presenting to large groups,\u201d she shares. \u201cWhether it\u2019s speaking in assemblies or meetings, I\u2019ve grown more comfortable in my role. I\u2019ve also learned the importance of organisation in leadership.\u201d<\/span>\r\n\r\nAt Wakefield Girls\u2019 Sixth Form, students find a place where academic excellence meets personal development, creating a foundation for future success. For Ellie and Alice, leadership is a journey that builds gradually over time.
