The theme for World Music Day 2023 was \u2018Music on the Intersections\u2019, highlighting the rich variety of music throughout the globe, in unifying communities and individuals.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This year we welcomed back Mr Sambabamba Man (otherwise known as Brian Costello) to run a series of workshops for Junior Girls and staff, exploring Samba instruments and how Samba music works through performance. The students discovered a range of new instruments, such as a t<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">amborim, ganza, Surdos, Reco-Reco and Apitos!<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mr Costello has been <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">a professional drummer\/percussionist for over twenty years. He explained to students about the musical culture in Brazil, specifically a \u2018Samba parade\u2019, where samba schools would come together, perform and compete for the position of \u2018Grand Champion\u2019.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The workshops were a great opportunity for the students to let loose and have fun creating music alongside their peers.
