It aims to improve the low numbers of people surviving out-of-hospital cardiac arrests by increasing public awareness of cardiac arrests and increasing the number of people trained in life saving CPR.\u00a0 A cardiac arrest happens when there is a problem with the heart\u2019s electrical rhythm, stopping it from pumping blood properly to the rest of the body. It can happen anywhere and at any time. It can happen at home, in the playground or in the street. The person will stop breathing and become unconscious. Chances of survival lower the longer it takes for someone to act.\u00a0 Approximately 30,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests happen every year in the UK. Sadly, less than 1 in 10 people survive these cardiac arrests.
