Saskia & Katy join National Youth Training Choir

At the end of December, Katy Gordon (11SH) & Saskia Goodwill (11KLD) got the news that they had both been offered places in the prestigious National Youth Training Choir.

Both girls sing in the Cantabile group at school and are also in Opera North - who they rehearse with every week. However, auditioning for the National Youth Training Choir was more nerve-wracking than any other audition the girls have done before! Not only was the prospect of auditioning daunting enough, but both girls auditioned in front of Ben Parry - the director of The National Youth Choir GB (no pressure girls!). There are hundreds of young people who audition for the choir, and with only 100 places available, the audition stage is highly competitive.

Clearly, Saskia & Katy did fantastically in their auditions and will now go on to do residential training courses at Easter and in the Summer. The courses are in preparation for a concert that will take place in the Summer.

Following on from studying A-Levels at WGHS, the girls want to go into The Arts. Katy would like to be an Opera singer and Saskia would like to sing in a more mainstream environment.

Congratulations girls - we can't wait to see your concert after all your hard work through the year!
