A talk with Sophie Ogg, Head of Communications at Williams F1

This morning, we welcomed Sophie Ogg, Old Girl (2000) and Head of Communications at Williams F1, back into school for an assembly with Mr Eggleston.

Ever since her father took her to a British Touring Car Championship race, Sophie's passion has been motorsports. Following her experience that weekend, Sophie knew that she wanted to work in motor racing - and nothing was going to stop her achieve her dream.

Having studied Maths, Computer Science and Physics at A-Level, Sophie left WGHS to go on to study at The University of Central Lancashire. She originally began her university career studying law, but decided that this wasn't quite the degree for her.

Graduating with a BA Hons in Public Relations, Sophie went on to work at a London Sports PR agency, to gain some experience in the media industry and building up her contacts as she went. Sophie then worked as Communications Manager at Eden Rock and in 2008, she moved to A1GP as a Communications Executive. In 2009, A1GP folded, resulting in Sophie taking stock of what she wanted for her career. This led to her setting up her own freelance agency.

Sophie started off 2010 by working in the Press Office at FIA World Touring Car Championship, before finishing up the year at Williams F1, where she currently works as Head of Communications - her dream job.

Despite being away from home half the year and racking up a whopping 65 flights last year, Sophie realises how lucky she is and describes her job as her life.

Her enthusiasm for her chosen field is infectious, with her parting advice to the girls being 'don't ever let anyone tell you that you can't achieve your dream'. Sophie's hard work and determination is an inspiration to both past and present WGHS girls, she's proof that if you want something enough and are willing to work hard to get there, your dreams can come true.

A huge thank you to Sophie for taking time out of her busy schedule to come back and visit WGHS.
