Year 11 Overview

Ethos of Year 11

Year 11 is a key year in the pupil school career and the focus is on preparing students to strive for and achieve academic success while preparing them for life after school by assisting with finding Work Experience placements, selecting careers and giving guidance on writing a good CV in preparation for personal statements.

The Year 11 girls are given the privilege of a Common Room and in return have responsibility for the ownership of this space. The Common Room facilitates whole Year group interaction and enhances their sense of Year group identity. As more mature students in the High School, they are also allowed some uniform privileges in preparation for Sixth Form life. All girls are supported by their Head of Year but those with specific organisational and academic needs can choose a member of staff other than their Head of Year or Form Tutor to act as a Mentor, with whom they meet on a one-to-one basis.

Students who are proving to be a cause for concern will work with the Head of Year on targets which are mutually agreed. Pastoral care takes many forms, as issues girls are coping with, become increasingly complex and academic guidance is all the more crucial with GCSE success the common goal and decisions about sixth Form options also to be made. This is a year of examination preparation, revision skills, high stress levels and decision making.

Changes in the girls’ relationships with their parents and figures of authority may make their behaviour challenging at times, at home and at school and workload issues may prove daunting for some. We strive to show that it is their behaviour we may not like; never the girls themselves, as they grow into independent young women with minds of their own.
