GCSE Results 2017

Our Year 11 girls have certainly done Wakefield Girls' High School proud this year, what a fantastic way to start their new journey into Year 12!

"Words can’t describe how thrilled I am with this year’s GCSE results. Our Year 11 students have worked so incredibly hard and we have been impressed, not only, by the approach they have taken to their studies throughout the year, but also, in the confident and composed manner they approached their exams. Their results show that they certainly had reason to be confident – with 76% of all results at grade A*/A or grades 7-9 for English and Maths.

The arrival of the new, tougher GCSEs in Maths, English Language and English Literature meant schools across the country have found it difficult to predict this year’s results but we are delighted with the outcome for our girls. There has been a national fall in the number of students accessing the top grades this year, so both staff and students alike should be proud of these results, which buck the trend, and show that WGHS has risen to the challenge of the new GCSEs splendidly.

Congratulations must go to the fourteen girls (all listed below) who achieved an impressive nine or more A* grades / 8+ in English and Maths. Whilst we are extremely proud of the achievements of every girl, it would be remiss of me not to give an extra special mention to the following girls: Maisie Brooke who achieved seven A*s and three 9s; Katy Willard achieving seven A*s, two 9s and A^ in Further Maths; Emma Brightman with six A*s, three 9s and A^ in Further Maths; Georgia Hamblett gaining eight A*s and three 9s and Francoise Nel achieving seven A*s, three 9s and A^ in Further Maths. These are truly amazing results!

Well done again to all our Year 11 girls."
