Sotterley and Ross Refurbishment

This Summer, there are lots of exciting refurbishment projects taking place in The Foundation. The biggest change at WGHS will be the newly renovated Sixth Form Centre, which will be ready for the return of our Year 12 and Year 13 pupils in September.

Sotterley and Ross have served our sixth formers well over the years, with the large social areas allowing the girls to relax or work alongside one another in various rooms throughout the buidlings. However, it's time for a refresh! The Year 13 and Year 12 girls will still have the same split arrangement, being in Sotterley and Ross respectively.

The new 'look' mirrors a coffee shop concept, with different seating areas, on-trend lighting, colour coded zones and focal points throughout both buildings. Both Sotterley and Ross will have a total refit throughout, including new kitchens, furniture, and walls being knocked through to create a more open and diverse space for the girls to spend time in. Dimestage and InnSight Design will carry out the Sixth Form Centre works, alongside other projects they'll be doing for The Foundation.

Throughout the Summer, from start to completion, this blog will update you on the progress of the refurb.

Update 1 - 3rd July 2017

Today is the day that everything has begun to be emptied out of The Sixth Form Centre as we know it! Almost every stick of furniture is being removed to make way for the wonderful new furnishings that Mrs Gunson has chosen. The rooms that have housed our oldest pupils will soon be bare, ready to be stripped back and start anew.

Update 3 - 14th July 2017

This week the builders have moved in and stripped out anything that hasn't made the cut for the 'new look' Sixth Form Centre. Carpets are up, light fittings are down and the skip is becoming fuller by the day! The walls that are coming down are being prepped to be no more and it's already becoming hard to remember what Sotterley and Ross looked like before the works began!

Update 4 - 1st August 2017

There have been a few structural changes over the past couple of weeks in Sotterley. Ceilings upstairs are being propped up and the walls have come down either side of the chimney breasts to create are more open plan feel. Meanwhile, in Ross, the floors are being prepped and new electrics are going in!

Update 5 - 14th August 2017

It was a very busy site visit last Thursday, with lots of different trades going about their business, whilst Mrs Gunson, Mr Cunningham and Mr Perry all checked up on the progress of the refurbishment! Paint colours have started to go on, light fittings are in place and the kitchens are at the first fix stage! It won't be long until the furniture can start to go in and the Sixth Form Centre will be ready to welcome back our Year 12 and Year 13 girls! How exciting!

Update 6 - 22nd August 2017

Exciting progress is being made every day in the Sixth Form Centre at the moment. Ross in particular is nearing the final stages, with the kitchen fitted, wallpaper up and spaces where furniture will soon be, it won't be long until we can see the finished article for the Year 12 girls. Meanwhile, in Sotterley, the internal doors are on and once the skirting board is in, the wallpaper will start to go up!

Update 7 - 6th September 2017

Today was the day! All of our new Year 12's and Year 13's came in to see the refurbished Sotterley and Ross. After assembly, inductions with their teachers and breakfast everyone looked quite at home in the new surroundings. Apart from a few finishing touches the transformation is complete - we can't wait to get stuck into the new school year with such brilliant facilities.
