The first group explored ‘body percussion’ putting together a highly effective piece purely making use of sounds that could be produced by their body! Starting off with a highly rhythmic pattern they then phrased into a soundscape depicting a thunder storm, starting with the howling wind, adding in patting and pouring rain and finally highly dramatic crashes of lightning before it all calmed down.
The second group had raiding their recycling bins and kitchen utensils cupboard to bring in all sorts of home found percussive instruments. Their task was to create a soundscape that described a machine that suddenly broke down but by the end was working normally again.
The girls had great fun exploring ways in which they could put rhythms together and differentiate between how you would play if the machine was working and when it was going wrong. Again, the result was super.
Our Year 4 percussion ensemble got a chance to work with Sophie on a jungle inspired piece that contrasted tuned and untuned percussion instruments. The girls were also treated to a performance by Sophie on the marimba – truly inspirational.
