From the volcanic landscapes of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wgsf.org.uk\/wghs\/2026\/02\/26\/students-return-from-unforgettable-iceland-expedition\/\">Iceland<\/a>\u00a0to the historic sites of Naples, our Year 8s and senior students have been traveling far and wide, earning praise from local guides for their conduct and curiosity as they explored everything from the eruption of AD 79 to the geography of the modern world.<\/p>\r\n<p data-path-to-node=\"3\">Back on home soil, academic ambition has been a constant. Two teams of chemists \u2013 \u201cAvogadro\u2019s Amigos\u201d and \u201cMethyl Orange\u201d \u2013 successfully took on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wgsf.org.uk\/wghs\/2026\/02\/26\/success-at-the-cambridge-chemistry-race\/\">Cambridge Chemistry Race<\/a>\u00a0at Rugby School, both earning Bronze awards and Honorary Mentions. Our linguists also\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wgsf.org.uk\/wghs\/2026\/02\/26\/a-level-linguists-shine-at-the-debating-competition-in-york\/\">showed their mettle<\/a>\u00a0at St Peter\u2019s in York, where Year 12 and 13 students debated complex motions entirely in French and Spanish. Saachi and Oscar\u2019s run to the French semi-finals, missing out by just a single point, was a standout performance.<\/p>\r\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4\">This momentum continued onto the international stage at the Oxford Union. Competing in the world\u2019s largest debating competition,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wgsf.org.uk\/wghs\/2026\/03\/19\/gemini-said-oxford-schools-debating-success-for-year-12-duo\/\">Saachi and Sophie secured first place<\/a>\u00a0in their opening heat. They tackled a profound motion on whether authors from marginalized backgrounds should prioritize \u201chopeful stories\u201d over narratives of oppression, demonstrating sharp analytical skills against teams from across the globe. This drive for innovation was also seen in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wgsf.org.uk\/qegs\/2026\/03\/12\/foundation-students-triumph-at-rotary-stem-tournament\/\">Rotary Technology STEM Tournament<\/a>, where Lucy, Buba, Adam, and Ihan designed and built the winning mechanical bridge structure.<\/p>\r\n<p data-path-to-node=\"2\">It has been a standout term for sport, headlined by a massive international achievement. Hettie was selected for the England U17 Netball squad for the European Championships in Aberdeen. Not only did she help the team to a clean sweep of victories to become European Champions, but she was also handed the captain\u2019s badge during the final match. Domestically, our U19 Netball squad finished an impressive 4th in the country after a grueling weekend at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wgsf.org.uk\/wghs\/2026\/03\/18\/a-landmark-week-for-the-1st-vii-netball-squad\/\">National Schools Finals and Sisters N Sport Top 4<\/a>, marking the end of a five-year journey for our Year 13 players. Our U14 Rugby 7s continued their winning streak with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DV_wGRVjOBM\/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet&amp;igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==\">back-to-back tournament victories<\/a>, while the KS4 Girls\u2019 Badminton team officially qualified for their own\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DVtb3BljK4A\/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet&amp;igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==\">National Finals in Milton Keynes<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n<p data-path-to-node=\"3\">The term also saw a fantastic display of performance in the QE Hall for the Senior House Music Competition. Sam took the title of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wgsf.org.uk\/qegs\/2026\/03\/24\/senior-house-music-2026\/\">Musician of the Year<\/a>, while Savile\/Mackie were named the overall House winners. Amidst the competitions, the daily life of the school has remained focused on the future; we hosted a successful\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DWEf4oaFhHq\/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet&amp;igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==\">Oxbridge InSight<\/a>\u00a0evening with help from alumni and Year 13 Oscar, while our Academic Mentoring sessions have helped students across the year groups stay on top of their goals. We also marked International Women\u2019s Day by celebrating the achievements of our \u201cOld Girls\u201d and the potential of our current pupils.
