Over 120 junior pupils from across the region arrived at QEGS yesterday to take part in the annual HMC Junior North East Chess Competition. The QE Hall provided a superb setting for the event, buzzing with focus and excitement as players from multiple schools gathered to test their skills.
Across the course of the day, competitors took part in six challenging rounds, each match contributing to an engaging and highly competitive atmosphere. Both the QEGS Under 9 and Under 11 teams performed admirably, demonstrating strong progress in their understanding of the game and showing impressive development as the rounds unfolded.
The event concluded with well-deserved victories for Yarm School and Dame Allan’s, who claimed the titles in the U9 and U11 sections respectively. Congratulations to both schools on their success.
QEGS was delighted to host such a vibrant and well-attended competition, and we look forward to welcoming pupils and teams again next year.
