Forty Year 5 pupils from five local primary schools (Flanshaw Junior & Infant School, St Michael’s CE Academy, Greenhill Primary School, Heath View Academy and St Mary’s CE Primary School) have joined us for ten Saturday mornings, since November, to take part in a range of activities. The various activities included building volcanoes and rockets, scientific investigations, code-breaking and performing their own musical compositions.
The children are supported and encouraged throughout the programme by a team of Year 12 Mentors from WGHS & QEGS Sixth Form – they really do provide the magic ingredient in projects like this and the young pupils look forward to attending so much each week, because of their input.
On Saturday, the Mentors gave a presentation to parents and teachers from the primary schools, showcasing what they had done throughout the programme and giving special achievement awards to the children. The celebration was a lovely event to recognise the achievements of all the children and Shine Mentors involved.
Everyone is looking forward to doing it all again next year!
