Ethos of the Department

In the Music Department, girls and staff work together to develop every girl’s musical potential to the full. Practical music-making is at the heart of the Department’s ethos and girls are encouraged to aim for the highest standards in individual music lessons and extra-curricular group work.

In curriculum lessons, girls explore the subject through individually tailored performance, composition and listening activities designed to stimulate intellectual curiosity, build performance confidence and encourage independent creative thinking.

The Department values all of its musicians, ensuring that the achievements of older girls help to inspire the next generation of girls in school. The Department takes every opportunity to share its work with the wider community in tours, concerts and music festivals.
