Years 1 and 2 (KS1)

In Years 1 and 2 we endeavour to create an environment in which girls can blossom and thrive.

Girls are introduced to a more independent school routine. We encourage and build upon their self-confidence, independence and responsibility in all activities, from unpacking their bags in the morning and making choices at lunchtime, to accessing the right equipment to support their learning.

New learning techniques are introduced alongside new subjects such as Science, Geography, History and Design Technology and girls experience concepts across several areas of learning. We follow a topic-based approach to our planning, encouraging the girls to make connections between different areas of learning and having a lot of fun in the process.

Timetabled PE is enjoyed by girls three times a week, utilising both indoor and outdoor areas and equipment. Girls are taught a variety of different sports, in turn nurturing a love of sport and encouraging a healthy lifestyle. Swimming is also introduced in Year 2 using the learner pool at QEGS.

Extra-curricular clubs and activities are introduced which support learning outside of the curriculum and the school year is enhanced with visitors and trips which help bring topics studied to life.
