Reception (EYFS)

Girls start Reception in the academic year in which they turn five. Many progress from Mulberry House Nursery, but girls are welcome to join WGHS Junior School at Reception.

Reception classes follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum and are taught by dedicated, caring and experience teachers who aim to develop the whole child and help them reach their full potential.

  • Independence is valued highly and challenges are set to encourage girls to investigate, discover and learn
  • Throughout the day, the seven areas of learning are visited in a bright and vibrant environment where every girl feel supported and encouraged
  • Fine and gross motor skills are developed through structured PE lessons as well as free-play activities
  • Music forms a very important part of the learning experience for our Reception girls with singing, listening and making music
  • French is taught by a specialist teacher, with the emphasis on song, story and rhyme in a fun learning environment, empowering the girls with a love of languages from an early age
“Girls begin their academic journey in Mulberry House, where they develop an early love of learning through creating, investigating, exploring and playing in an exciting and stimulating learning environment.”
